Does anyone here live in or around Yosemite? Just curious. I'm new to the area, living and working in Fish Camp. I know there's a whole community down in the Valley/El Portal, but I haven't met many people yet.

Thu, February 22, 2007 - 9:02 PMWhat's Fish Camp?
I visited Yosemite over Presidents' Day Weekend, last week, it was great.
Stayed at Curry Village in a Tent Cabin. Hiked up to Emerald Lake, just past Vernal Falls.
I know that during the Spring, Housekeeping camp comes alive, and you might start to meet more people then.
Out of curiousity, what kind of pay are you getting working at fish camp, if you don't mind me asking?

Tue, February 27, 2007 - 1:23 PMHi Meg--
I was in the area for years, and have close friends over there. If you're into hiking or mountain biking and are looking for buddies, I'm sure I can help you out. In fact, I'll be over there this weekend. A good friend is only a couple miles away from Nelder Grove. Woopee!
Hope you're enjoying Fish Camp...

Re: Any locals?
Mon, April 30, 2007 - 7:06 PMHello Meg,
Welcome to the area. I'm about 20 minutes outside of the Big Oak entrance (120 side), if that's local or near enough. I don't spend alot of time in or around the valley floor so i'm not in the loop myself. But Eddie was right; house keeping and some of the other park emplyees who are there because of their love for climbing and hiking and packing will turn you on to what you're looking for, if you're careful about who you hang out with and who you take advise from. The frauds and the posers usually make themselves apparent within the first 24 hours or so.
If you're going to be spending alot of time on and off the trails then you'll see who's around all the time and who's not. Talk to the rangers about local bear activity (talk to the one's who seem to really give a shit). Hope you enjoy it here. It truely is a mystical and magical part of this planet.
